10 Reasons you should Date a Dutch Guy

Don’t fall for negative stereotypes that Dutch men are cold and stingy. I’ve been in a relationship with my Dutchie for nearly five years and think quite the opposite. I am thankful for having him in my life and have little to no complaints.

I am aware that my opinion and experience will be different from others but I hope you can read this lightheartedly. Obviously every Dutch guy is different and unique! But I would like to share with you my own honest thoughts, feelings and reasons you should date a Dutch guy. Here are 10 reasons why:

I mean seriously, wow. You might break your neck staring when you notice a Dutch guy towering over you and everyday things like entrances to the supermarket and the door to your house. Their average height is about 1.86 cm or just over 6 feet. This is great because you can wear heels and have someone help you reach for things on the higher shelves.

The Dutch are very practical people with a down to earth approach to life. They are realistic and level-headed and comfortable in their own skin. Chances are he will like and appreciate you for who you are and want for you to be as genuine as possible.

Dutch people are so timely and efficient that I think it’s a skill they have mastered at birth. Whether business or pleasure they are sure to be early or on time and take this very seriously. Any event, meeting, phone chat or even something entirely mundane will be planned ahead on their agenda. So if tardiness is a pet peeve of yours, you won’t have to worry because a Dutch guy will always make the date.

Heard of that remote island off the coast of Papua New Guinea? Yeah, chances are he may have been there. In general, the Dutch travel quite often. I’m not sure if it’s because the Netherlands is centrally located in Europe or that they have many vacation days. When I was curious about an underground tunnel party in London and a beach city in Morocco, the Dutchie was enthused to go. The cool thing is that you will have a travel partner who will go with you to all these unique and far off destinations.

When the Dutchie and I were long-distance I would find delivered flowers at the workplace while living in London or on my doorstep back home in Los Angeles. It is the sweetest gesture and to this day I’ll still come home to fresh roses or tulips. He always remembers to bring this sweet gift when visiting his mom and dad. A few times during the week I will see Dutch men walking down the street carrying a bouquet of flowers to someone special – their mother, sister, wife or whoever it may be!

The Netherlands is socially progressive and strong advocates for gender equality. You will find both women and men cooking in the kitchen, going to work and splitting housework. I’m so happy about this because the Dutchie loves cleaning while I take a liking to vacuuming and concocting new recipes in the kitchen. This alone is one of the great reasons to date a Dutch guy.

Dutch people grow up from a young age learning how to ride their bikes, so he will be a master at fixing yours if you have any issues. I think it’s sweet that my Dutchie will go out of his way to put air in my tire or make sure it is working properly. Not only bikes, but any computer issues or broken things around the house he will immediately start working on before I get around to asking him for help.

Dutch men appreciate their relationships and like to spend time with their family. The Dutchie brings flowers to his mother, never forgets birthdays and makes an effort to have dinner with them regularly. I even read that fathers have a day in which they can officially take off during the week to take care of their children called Papadag.

I truly have no clue if the guy you like will be your long term lover. However, as I mentioned before Dutch men care about their relationships; I can only vouch for this according to my partner’s actions. He is actively supportive, caring, considerate and always willing to give a helping hand. He views me as his equal and treats me with love and respect. These are values I truly appreciate!
